Welcome to Withergard

Of Everlasting Winter

Located in the northwestern part of the kingdom lies Withergard, the land of Everlasting Winter. This region has been locked in a never-ending winter since the Wonder made seasons everlasting. Since then, the inhabitants have been forced to endure the harsh blizzards and chilly temperatures that this environment brings.

Though this has caused friction between the different lands' inhabitants in the past, the people of Withergard are resilient and have persevered. However, some may still feel cursed and envious of those in more temperate regions.

The People of Withergard

In Withergard, a realm cloaked in mystery, you shall encounter a diverse array of beings. This region boasts the fewest humans, yet those who call it home have nestled into the bustling cities of Shiverdell, Gwendolen Lane, and Glittervale.

Hoarfrost Dwarf

Born of the icy grasp of winter, the Hoarfrost Dwarves trace their origins to the very snow and ice that blankets Withergard. Through their tireless efforts and unwavering resolve, they have transformed the region into a welcoming haven for a myriad of people.

Atop the jagged peaks, one can find the enigmatic Rimesong tribe, another faction of Himmelkin. Their vibrant festivals and enchanting melodies are rumoured to beckon the awe-inspiring aurora borealis with each harmonious note.

Not too distant from the vibrancy of the Rimesong dwellings lie the Dormant Lichenlings, a unique variant known for their resilience and steadfast nature. These beings, honour the tranquillity of existence by rarely venturing far from their resting grounds.

The ethereal Starborne is drawn to Withergard to unravel the mysteries of the celestial ballet showcased by the aurora and the myriad celestial bodies that adorn the night sky.

Among these captivating denizens, the Umbrakin stand out as daring adventurers and wanderers of the land. Some have chosen paths less traveled, serving as reclusive scholars, hired swords, astute investigators, or knowledgeable guides, using their distinct gifts to navigate the harsh weather of Withergard.

Shiverdell

The capital of Withergard is Shiverdell, a large settlement where Withergard Keep, home to the Royal House Camellia, is located.

This bustling city is home to military barracks, various training grounds, and a necessary hub for any unknowing adventurer and sellswords for hire, who wants to brave the cold and explore the kingdom of Withergard.

Important Sights

Beyond Shiverdell, the kingdom of Withergard offers much to explore, from the highest mountains like Hailstone Summit and Lucent Hollow. Or the deepest caves like Amethyst Caverns and the large mysterious King’s Field said to be home to dangerous horrors.

Though many of these places remain unknown to most due to the extreme conditions one must endure to fully explore them. Indeed, what secrets lie beneath the snow, encased in ice, or within the grottos of this unforgiving land?

These are questions many guilds and explorers would like to answer. As answers to the land’s long-gone past might be buried in the snow.

Life In Withergard

A land where the people are resilient and make a lot with what they are given. Despite the inhospitable conditions, the people of Withergard remain as warm and welcoming as any other, passionate and loud.

If you can survive the wilds of this region, none of the other dangers of the Kingdom will be difficult to face for a Withergardian!

Editor’s Note: How Did I Create This Map?

I create the maps using the online tool Inkarnate. I'm not affiliated with or sponsored by Inkarnate, so everything I say is my honest opinion of the tool.

I found it to be the best for creating both regional and world maps and battle maps, with the additional help of Photoshop and Figma to make them look older and worn. I prepared the file for printing and made sure the squares were correct according to my minis.

If you want to find inspiration for existing battle maps or try your hand at creating your very own maps, I highly recommend Inkarnate!
